The Modern Firm has appointed Martin Bisset as Non-Executive Director

Cheltenham-based consultancy The Modern Firm has appointed Martin Bisset as Non-Executive Director, with Bisset also becoming a shareholder in the business, as the firm continues to build out the leadership around its next phase of growth.

Luke Farren launched The Modern Firm in 2025 with a clear premise: that accountancy firms wanting to modernise needed more than another piece of software. They needed a partner who could bring strategy, technology, automation and operational thinking together in one place.

That premise has since translated into a client base spanning firms across the UK, with The Modern Firm building a name for itself around transformation work, technology implementation and helping practices rethink how they operate day to day. Bisset's appointment adds a new dimension to that story.

As Founder of Bissett Group Holdings, Bisset has spent decades working alongside accountancy firms, including several in the Top 100, and has been working closely with Farren over the past year to help shape the structure and seniority around The Modern Firm as it has scaled.

His appointment as Non-Executive Director is the first of three planned board appointments this year, and through Bissett Group Holdings he will also open up his network and provide strategic input and hands-on support as the business works towards its next set of growth targets.‍

‍The appointment lands at a point where accountancy firms are under growing pressure to modernise quickly, whether that's adopting AI, redesigning processes or simply keeping pace with client expectations, and where the businesses supporting them are increasingly judged on the strength of the people standing behind them.

Two further Non-Executive Director appointments are already in progress, with The Modern Firm expecting to confirm both before the end of the summer as it continues to shape the board around its longer-term ambitions.
